3D-scan with other hardware, fusion with David

Postby VDX » Sat Dec 22, 2012 9:29 pm

Hi,

... one of my sisters is in an 'ancient' group and is crafting 'keltic' amulets and knobs.

For scanning one of the amulets I've used my old dental scanner to scan the two sides and fused them with David.

- a picture for size comparison:

Hi Dave,

... yes, I have followed his thread.

This figure is only meant as test of the shapeway's cheaper resins - have other (bigger) much better scanned with David and even smaller ones scanned with the dental-scanner.

Will get a software update for the dental scanner soon, so I can better adjust the scanning parameters, but until now the 'dimension ranges' of my David setup are around 20mm to 200mm big objects and the dental scanner is more for the smaller ones from 30mm down to maybe 5m size ... will test with special reducing optics for the beamer and video microscopes with high DOF values, to which limits really small objects and fine details can be scanned

... received today the 4 'clones' from shapeways - cheapest type in different colours, around 2.90€ per figure, 22€ for the 4 figures, tax and shipping:

Hi, you all did amasing job, guys, really! I know about one more company that produces 3D scanners as well as software for them, maybe this will be of some use too. I tried them a couple of times and I'm very satisfied with the results. Check over here. Good luck!
