Hi,

Somewhere like this picture it needs to use an angle less than 15 degrees between camera and data projector;
However DLS warns about it :wink:

Lets take a look to a scanning process using an angle about 12 degrees between camera and data projector and using vertical setup :

The AGISOFT PHOT SCAN is my only option to scan some parts where them is not possible to scan it via DLS ( Triangulation ; Less than 5 degrees )

Really awesome comparison !!!!

I have started 3d scanning with photogrammetry and the results are pretty good.
Every technology has it's pro and cons.
Photogrammetry is very simple (only one normal cam/dslr), cheap and very good quality.
Especially the texture is amazing good. The "only" drawback is that object needs to have good contrast/texture and the lightning conditions must be quite good.
Good "trick" here is to project structure (e.g. grid) with projector on the object if no real texture is required.

On the other side SLS has on the pro side: Very accurate and quite fast (capture/post processing/alignment).
SLS with two cameras could also help to get more "deep" on the scanned object.

Another idea could be to combine both technologies in one SW to minimize gaps and improve texture quality.
E.g. using turntable and generate every 30° SLS, every 5° texture picture for photogrammetry.
Afterwards generate model from both technologies and use the best poincloud source for post-processing of final result (like HDR for picture).

I experimented with the SLS and photogrammetry pulling together. I could not.
SLS idea was to save the rest onto result fotogrametry lookup texture OBJ format. It would be better discussed for this.

I see no reason why it should not be possible to merge two point clouds and generate from the result final object ... in theory.
In practice ... you are limited in the import/export function from the used tools. Also 1by1 scaling of the point cloud from the photogrammetry could be tricky.

But there should be a way to implement this into the SW because everything required (cam and turntable) is available.
I really like this idea but it's for sure quite difficult to be implemented for easy usage.

Hi,

it seems david 4 is using a different algorithm for calibration :shock: .

By using image grabber and using David 4 to calibrate a scanner with an angle less than 15 degrees between camera and data projector:
