Laser & Timer

Postby hal » Thu Feb 14, 2008 5:54 pm

Salve a tutti,
I tried to put my new green focusable laser [LC532-5-F(16x65) from Picotronic GmbH] on a "kitchen" timer. My goal is > get a slow brushing of the laser line. I tried it at a 50 cm far from object, along a distance of 10 cm. Here my hand-made solution and the test.

Benefits:
-slow motion at short distances (between object and laser). Distances under 100 cm + or - are quite good;
-inexpensive;
-many timer are very light and can be attached to whatever you want (mine has a magnet).

Problems:
-just a little rigid movment, as in a clock ( tic_tac_tic_tac_ :wink: );
-problematic over long distances (over 100 cm, + or -).

P.S.: in the attached image, you can see two little tape stripes; they are an aid to find the right alignment of the line.

thanks. Now the problem is: found a way to smooth the mechanical rotation movement. I think that an other timer can do this. If someone else wants to try... Good night.

Hello Hal,

Sorry! It was a joke only... :roll:

But a question: The "problematic over long distances" is come from the timer's movement?

I'm waiting for my firsth line laser from Picotronic. I'm very hungry for that!
I think that your suggestion to the scanning my avatar - which is a home made paper model of a hungarian diesel locomotive - is not an easy work, but I will try it.

thanks! Zsolt

hi

Ciao a tutti,
@Pzsolt -> Yes, the problems with this cheap timer is its "shotting" movement (It spring up), because the coil springs inside move the mechanism not very smoothly. :roll:

angle

Postby erniej » Wed Apr 09, 2008 4:49 pm

How do you keep from receiving "angle too low" error messages?

Never mind. I thought about it and I can see why you would not receive an error message.

Does this method work for scanning from the bottom to the top of an object?

It looks like a great idea. My dad used to make ovens. I may have a box of timers down in my cellar. hhmmmmmmmmm
