What do we need to scan a full size human figure

Hello all on forum

we need to scan a full size figure in this pose for two sculptures eventually at 10m high.

I can get a bureau scan done for £1000 but would really like to perhaps have a setup here at the studio to do this for other future projects also.
I dont want to spend too much money and something like the Artec Eva scanner and software which is ready to go to work, is over £12k. We are prepared to conduct some experiments and have a budget of around £3k to play with. Would this David structured light scanner do the job for us? We would want to work in zbrush to finish the sculpture design here at studio and then after have a 3D print made as a test model at a bureau.

Would the scanner need to traverse vertically on a rail or such to capture full height of figure?

Has anyone here got an existing set up or could suggest what we could try and build as a scanning rig for full size figures.

Scanning a person in full-size is always a problem because it's living (and moving). Who can stand still for some seconds? That means in any case it's necessary to underpin the person by several supports. These pillars can be removed easily afterwards in DAVID's Shape Fusion.
The scanner could look like this Japanese one:

That means it should consist of three, or better of four single scanners standing around the person. Each scanner has its own video projector and a camera. The 3 or 4 scanner units would be started one after the other to capture the 3D data. Only one DAVID license would be necessary!

But it’s costly, maybe that’s the reason that up to now nobody of the DAVID forum has tried it. So be the first and give it a try.

there is another solution for the task of scanning people. Check the site they are working with lots of cameras which take a shot at the same time. The photographs are used together with a program called photoscan to construct 3D models. For me, it seems that this scanning method is at the moment the best for objects which can move. I do not know any price they take for scanning, however.
There is another and cheap method: You could use a program like ReconstructMe together with a sensor like the Carmine from PrimeSense or the Kinect from Microsoft or Asus Xtion Pro. However, "cheap" means that the program and equipment is cheap. But you need a powerful computer with a good graphic card and a powerful CPU. But this also holds if you want to use photoscan, which is available for 179 US dollars.
In this sense, DAVID-Laserscanner is the overall cheapest solution if you use a laser with the program. Scanning with mirrors however is a very tricky job. We tried it to scan persons from whom we needed the surface size and the volume. You have to do it with DAVID-Laserscanner 2.xx; it is not easy with version 3.xx until now. And it has a serious restriction: Because you cannot avoid that the mirrors are bent from bottom to top a little bit the laser lines sometimes do not run in parallel over the whole length of nearly 2 meters. And additionally, the three scans do not fit for 100 percent and are a little bit bulky instead.
