Point Grey Camera Help

Point Grey Camera Help

Postby ienriq » Sun Jun 17, 2012 2:02 am

Hello I was wondering if anyone has had success using a point grey ccd with DAVID? I foolishly bought a point grey grasshoper GRAS-20S4M-C camera, fujinon 12.5 -70mm f/1.2 lens and the David Pro software expecting it to all work together and allow me to achieve superb results. I have now payed the ultimate price realizing that the camera does not seem compatible. I installed the drivers for the camera, but I still cannot see anything in live view. I am over $1500 dollars into my rig with absolutely nothing to show for it. If anyone can possibly help me figure out a solution I would be very very grateful. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from someone soon.

Ok, it was very silly I guess. I can now see live view. I simply had to lower the resolution. I guess david can't go any higher than what their own ccd cameras can go.

Hello Ienriq
This material should function correctly ( I have myself a Grasshopper wich function correctly with David), have you installed Direct Show with the Flycapture 2 program of Point Grey? You will then have access to different resolutions with David.
Also you can visit Point Grey FAQ if you have difficulties to install Direct Show.
Good success,

Some of the Point Grey cameras utilize USB 3 and have very fast fps (60 and faster). Can this fast frame rate be processed with David for ultra fast scanning?

DAVID can scan with up to 60 FPS (laser scanning). Structured Light scanning is slower, but also depends on the camera speed.
And of course the whole computer must be fast enough!

During laser scanning, you can see a "Refresh Rate" slider at the top of the DAVID window. Refreshing the result view takes some time, so you can reduce the Refresh Rate value to increase scanning speed.

At the bottom right corner, DAVID displays the real measured number of processed frames per second. This value is usually higher during scanning than when showing the live image.

I have tried use the USB 3.0 Point Grey, with the global shutter, and have not yet made it work with David yet. I did not know about the less than 60 fps for structured light, will try to get it slower, it likes to run at 150 fps. Also, I still cannot get David to recognize the camera, for a view of the object. Using the fly capture, David can still not see it.
