" LETS SCAN " Based on david laser scanner

Postby NARMELLA » Wed Oct 29, 2014 4:32 pm

Hi,

As i told it before, david is a flexible software and i used it to achieve to my goal.
Finally I wrote the software " LETS SCAN " based on the image grabber module of david laser scanner to reduce scanning time and increasing details of scans.

It has 4 editions :

- LETS SCAN CANON EOS EDITION 1 CAM : this edition is for canon eos cameras and supports up to 3 scanner and one camera for each scanner and turn table too.

- LETS SCAN DIRECT SHOW EDITION 1 CAM : this edition is for industrial cameras and web cams and supports up to 3 scanner and one camera for each scanner and turn table too.
It's so fast : time of each capturing sequence is under 1sec by using 1 camera.

- LETS SCAN CANON EOS EDITION 3 CAM : this edition is for canon eos cameras and supports up to three scanner and three camera for each scanner and turn table too.

- LETS SCAN DIRECT SHOW EDITION 3 CAM : this edition is for industrial cameras and web cams and supports up to 3 scanner and three camera for each scanner and turn table too.
It's so fast : time of each capturing sequence is under 2 sec by using 3 camera.

I will send some results soon.
You can do it for your selves too.

Good luck

Hi NARMELLA

Do you have this for downloading very interested to see if its quicker than the way I do it now.

looking forward to your results!

thanks

Hi Johnathan,

Working with image grabber needs to spend a bit more time than live view scanning. But capturing time is very important.

Why do I wrote this software ?
- Some where i need to have scans with more resolution ( more than 2 Megapixels) . this is my reason to have LETS SCAN canon eos edition.
- Some where i need to scan objects In the least possible time ( full body scan ). this is my reason to have LETS SCAN direct show edition.

And about downloading this software :
I had not thought about it . I have to provide some help files and ... please let me to think about it.

And about results : Soon

That looks like a huge time saver! how much will it reduce errors in the overall scan?

After I get my turntable finished I was planning on looking into scanning with multiple cameras. I've seen reference to scanning with two cameras here on the forums but I haven't looked at it seriously yet.
Thant said, I too am very interested in what you are doing and would love to try your software. combined with a turntable, using 2 or 3 cameras with one projector to decrease scanning time would be a big step forward.

I can also see it would be very useful in scanning objects that can remain still for very long, like my kid. :D

thanks

Wow, this is very interesting, fantastic scan quality !!
I haven't been on the forum for some time, its good to see a 2 camera rig finally working !
Any more info on how to do this ?

Mike.

Hi Mike,

As i told it before david laser scanner is a flexible scanning software.
I don't know why they (david team) don't want to extend image grabber therefore i decided to write my own utility to extend it.
"Let's scan" is a utility to use industrial cameras or canon eos cameras to collect pre-captured images to use them in image grabber.
It supports up to 3 scanners and 3 cameras for each scanner at the same time .
Above i put a result of 1 scanner and 3 eos cameras at the same time .

I am not going to sell or putting it to download . It's only for my own use .
this topic is a sample to show : how it is possible to get more by using david laser scanner.

I will put other samples soon...

Now your just being cruel. Tempting us but not letting us play too :D
Out of curiosity, Is your reason for not sharing professional or that you don't want the responsibility of dealing with the requests etc?

I do hope David integrates multi camera capture and I appreciate the advantage of using the exponentially higher equipment quality of cameras like the cannon. But honestly, if David doesn't add this functionality in a future release then I will probably never get use it. Mostly because I can take the time scan with the set up I have now and I can't code to save my life. I did 2 classes in C++ in collage yet I'm still struggling to get code written for my arduino turn tables (and I'm just adding and modifying code that for the most part has already been written).

Hi micro,

I am glad to see that you are interested in this item. :D
There are several ways to increase the performance of a task.
One of them is that we can get the most out of available resources.

The core of david laser scanner is flexible enough. It is not limited to the use of specific hardware ( thanks to david team )
By having a little knowledge about one of programming languages (specially C++ ) and With a little searching on the Internet you can write your own utilities .
Specially by using david 4 and sdk .

I have enough task to do and i tried to do my works faster .
You can do it for yourself too, isn't it ?

Hi Narmella,
It is a shame that you aren't able to share your secrets :(
I actually work in the Laser scanning industry, we have several scanners, Faro X330, Leica MS50, Riegl VZ1000.
Equipment means little compared to knowledge and experience .

We have just finished scanning an entire oil rig, approximately 400 scans.
I hope your discoveries and fine examples will prompt the David team to investigate multi-camera setups in the near future :)

Have a great Christmas everyone !
Cheers,
Mike.

Ok
I will put a free release of " Lets scan v2.2 1s1c0T " for download.
Then you can test that how it is possible to grab images in a second.

Soon. :D
