DIY - Own 3D laser scanning project: inc head scan

DIY - Own 3D laser scanning project: inc head scan

Postby scan3d » Thu Oct 01, 2009 1:17 pm

Hi all

I would like to introduce my new DIY 3D scanning project for 2009 (very similar to the workings of David3D)
The project has been in production for a long time and has been through many iterations. Finally I'm happy with the speed of data capture and its 'free' scanning process. The results aren't that bad either!

*NEW* (8th October 2008]
A real face scan and foot (not meshed due to very noisy 3d data capture using low quality webcam at 320x240):

Project highlights:
- Designed to capture 3D point coordinates using a free sweeping laser movement with standard Ascii (xyz) output.
- Vertex texture mapping implemented (x y z R G B)
- Realtime (4-6 fps) live preview of captured 2D data and threshold settings
- Quick and easy to setup (few minutes)
- No complicated camera calibration needed to achieve good results.

Please visit regulary as I hope to catalogue my previous attempts and other project I've been working on in my precious spare time.

Hi,

thanks for that information.

I moved your post to the Third-party-software section.

Otherwise we´ll get wired.

Gunter

BTW: your laserlevel is just the same I started with....

I merged your new thread with your previous one.
Think its better to keep together what belongs together.

thanks

Hi All,

September 2010 Update : DIY Realtime Webcam 3D Laser Scanner

I have just recently added native webcam capture to my 3d laser scanning program and can now capture full colour textured point clouds in a single scan.

A small compilation of recent 3D scans is attached below.

Hi Raya,

I have programmed webcam capture into my VB scanning application. It is now an all-in-one solution.
Before this I was using a separate application to capture the webcam images and saving them to a folder for processing!
