Whaou :) .Great.. from start to finish.

A few questions:

Why do you print the piece on an angle and not vertical ?

Could you provide some details on the scan process ?

Setup horizontal ? Number of patterns ? Retouching ? Smoothing ?

Thanks,
Jeff

one reason for the angle was to get the best fit on the printer and to get a good contact point to start the print, also to try and get the best finish on the outside as possible.

scan was done on my turntable, 16 scans in 360 deg probably 40 scans in all, fusion at 1000, Horizontal setup on my 3d printed projector and camera mounts that can be downloaded else where on the forum, no smoothing, no Retouching, think I reduced mesh density but don't remember.

Being from the US, all I can guess is that it looks like it's from an older British Ford we don't have here in the states. I'm sure if I use my "Google-fu" that I could give a better "guess", but I don't want to cheat.

Excellent scan by the way.

well done jokeri you are correct with Anglia, not many of these old cars still going.
this car has an LS3 v8 with over 475 BHP at 75% throttle on the dyno when mapping it before he runs it in, then we will do a full throttle run to see full power with some miles on it.

How did you scan the translucent orange material? I thought the scanner doesn't like transparent material... did you have to treat it in any way?

Nice print using Formlab resin. Quality looked just like the original!

Thanks
Sarah

Hi Idea Beans

yes I cotted the lens with developer spray called Spotcheck SKD-S2 Developer it has a good spray and very smooth white powder finish, just washes off.

Cheers Johnathan

Nicely done. Been looking at SLA printers lately. The reviews on the CTC Riverside seem to be a mixed bag. How's it been working for you so far? The print looks great!

Shapeways. I was looking into buying a new 3D printer (We has use of an older SLA from a company we machined a lot of parts for) and for the one or two models a month I couldn't justify the cost of even a hobby level desktop model. Now that shapeways has introduces expedited services it's a viable way to get parts made for us.

I got it of ebay for £550 had some problems with it but made my own resin vats for it on my laser cutter and it works well now, had some screws come loose on it that made some prints fail and some computer glitches to but found a way round them and it did some nice prints.
small prints are easy, bigger ones like the light lenses are more of a problem with the resin vat that comes with it.

LOL I actually have a guy with TWO Anglias.. They look like little milk trucks to me. He has been chasing me around to finish them up but he is a politician so I have to be careful. :)

did you make your own turntable? I am likely going to do this. Glad to see another motorsport guy doing this stuff.

In my case, I am using T-glase and a FDM Prusa Mega to do lenses and coating them with epoxy to smooth them. About to make some custom housings with it too, but, I will then likely end up needing to make a vapor dep to chrome the interior.

cottage industry will soon topple these big corps with the amount of ingenuity and tech I am seeing these days.
