How much measurement accuracy is lost when you go to a basic mesh?

Hi,

It's completely depends to that How much time do you want to spend to create a parametric model .
In total :
If you have a precise scan ( +/- 0.03 mm deviation ) ; You can reach a deviation up to +/- 0.05 mm by using a combination of curve wizard of Scanto3d and solidworks surfacing tools.

It depends entirely on the quality of scan file .

Good luck

Hi,

An other process of reverse engineering :
David laser scanner : to create point cloud
Solidworks : Scanto3d to split scan file to sections + Surfacing tools

Hi,

Geomagic design X and its Capabilities.
Geomagic design X , is so powerful, flexible, precise and fast .

Used file scanned using david laser scanner .If needs take a look here for more information.

What is the difference between Geomagic studio and Design X. I've looked through Geomagic's web site and it mostly marketing speak with little direct comparison of their different products. That design X seems to incorporate Spaceclaim's direct modeler is about the only real difference I could see. Are the scan editing and mesh prep tools better or more comprehensive?

Correction. I guess it's Geomagic's Design Direct that uses SpaceClaims Modeler.

Hi micr0,

It was Rapidform xor , And now i see its name has changed to Geomagic design x.
Take a look here and here for more information

in short :
Rapidform Mainly is a cad software and you can create free form surfaces or complex models easily + has enough ability to work on scan files.
And Geomagic studio has only ability to wok on scan files .

Hi,

Using reverse engineering to create a parametric model and fix Any deformation in geometry of main scanned part :

Great scans, milling and moulding ! Congratulations !

You seem to have all the right toys to have fun :)

More seriously, how much do you estimate the time saving when using a scanned object compared to starting from scratch in Solidworks (10, 20 ..50 % ?) ?

Thank you Jeff :D

Mainly i use scan files to have precise " free form " models .
And as we know it takes more time to create a parametric model from a scan file even by solidworks or others.

However i use "Lets scan " with 3 cameras ; where it needs to scan parts faster.

Good luck
