David laser scanner and reverse engineering

Postby NARMELLA » Tue Nov 18, 2014 4:45 pm

Hi

Revers engineering is a part of my occupation and in this topic i want to put some examples of reverse engineered parts .

This is a reverse engineering by using a scan of a gear ( Created by david laser scanner ) and solid works.
Let's take a look to :

This a scan of a gear ( Take a look here for more information )

Loading Scanto3d addin in solidworks

Selecting Mesh files in drop down list in open window

Now the scan file is loaded and it is ready to use

For this one i want to use Solid types modeling tools instead of Surfacing tools or scanto3d utility .
Lets start

Thanks for this but a couple of questions.
How do you extract datum to use in the parametric models? Are you just taking points for dimensional date or are you actually extracting profiles, and if so how?

Hi

micr0 wrote:... Are you just taking points for dimensional date or are you actually extracting profiles, and if so how?

Maybe or not ; It completely depends to many items :
- Is the part that you want to scan it , should be the final model or it is the base to use it in your final result ?
- Geometry of part
- where do you want to use it ?
.
.

Answering this question needs more explanation , Let me go step by step and post by post .
I will send extra information about david laser scanner and reverse engineering soon.

But a short answer :
Scanto3d has curve wizard option that sometimes i use it.

I found a video about using scanto3d . You can watch it in this link .

Good luck

Is it also possible to use this way of reverse engineering for bigger parts, i have got an upright of 500000faces and the scanto3d fuction is up to 3000?
