Interesting discussion since we are approaching the RE task starting from minimal knowledge.

Apart expensive Geomagic Design X and Solidworks, interested to know if DesignSpark or better SpaceClaim with latest RE module can be an effective solution.

I'm certainly no expert in RE but I do have an interest. DesignSpark can do it but not easily. SpaceClaim would be a better choice or a less expensive solution like Rhino with Mesh2Surface add in.

In fact
the software " Geomagic design X " is the best choice for reveres engineering.
Has lots of abilities
to preparing scans
creating precise shapes using scan files
creating core and cavities for your molds.
