The business of scanning service

Postby Gunmaker » Wed Sep 03, 2014 3:47 am

Hello friends!
I have many some peoples asking for the service of scanning (cnc and routers users).
In first time I purchased my SLS 2 for me... but maybe I can obtain money extra!!
My question is how much for the service? ?
For example a guitar. .....how much?
For example a little piece like a remote control alarm case.... how much?

Maybe you have some ideas to guide me. Here in Rosario, Argentina I don't have other people offering 3D scanning service.

Thank you in advance for all

Martin

Hi Martin
If you mean that you want to use these tools to make money ;
The value of these services in different countries varies according to the laws of that.

You should consider a few important factors for pricing.
- How much time will you spend ?
- Are there competing for your job?
- How much have you spent? And how much do you want to spend to do ?
and ...

Good luck

Let your only problem be this :)

If you have monopoly or not, I don't recommend you to set prices much higher than the job deserves. When somebody else enters the market in the future, you will have their trust this way.

Consider two things; 1) how long and hard does it take you to do that specific job? 2) Hiring you for 3d scanning is just another cost for your customers among their other costs. How big a job are they on? Your scanning cost to them shouldn't hamper their profit.

But if your customer is on a hefty profitable job and 3d scanning is a key solution, you should set a higher price than the job deserves, because you deserve it.

Is this your main business?
Just look around for business calulations.
I do this business since 5 years and
i allways have bad calulations of worktime.
it´s really difficault in this business.
As freelancer in germany depends on business
you have to calculate minimum 300 Eur per day
or 65 Eur per hour. I bet you will find some number like
this for argentinia too. Did you have a bank/gernal gouvernent
crisis there isn´t it ?
a big pro of David is the extrem low start invest.
other companys starts with machine around 15k up to 150k and more

Hey milz, who are your customers? What do they do?
Can you give some examples? Can you get enough accuracy to fulfill engineering jobs, or should ask in reverse, do you find david's accuracy enough for lets say a piston production? I can get accurate scans even with my webcam, but you have better weapons...

heho
from a-z. i dont like engineering much cause of teh step from mesh to solid.. retopo is pain in the ass
If you have a good calibration the single scans are perfect and have a high accurcy. the weak point is
shapefusion. but dont think if you buy mid class system for 15k you dont have problems or the scanner
did all the work for you.therefor you have to go to 150k machines -)
My targets are art, culture hertages and all the thing the other guys wont scan.
I often hear from my cusomter the dont get answer from the other companys.
most privat customers. so the guys with expensive machine do the engineering jobs
i will do the rest -)
edit: the market of scanning will change rapidly in the next years.
voxel engines, real time 3d movie, 3d printing, holograpic smartphone display etc ....
for all this you need 3d scanned content....

Friends! All your comments and tips are very important for me. Finally my client accept the price for scann a guitar electric body and the other large part (I don't know the English translation).
I purchased my SLS-2 for private use... (I'm an Artisan. In my workshop I made antique weapons replica with my Father) but many people's ask me about the scann service here. I am happy... maybe I can add this work in my free time.
If anyone want see our guns work visit my website Www.osvaldogatto.com
