Salve a tutti,

how are you?

here a test with little Warhammer miniature.

Cam: Trust WB 5400 (resolution: image 1=1024x768, image 2 and 3, 800x600)
Laser: laser leveler, B&D (laserline reduced by black tape, because object is little and a big line can be problematic).

IMPORTAN: i made this in short time with improvised set (panels not perfectly 90° and calib set markers stamp on a blended page) because i haven't more time. I think (i'm sure) the work like more precise if i build a seriuos set. and finally, last but not list, i moved laser handly...

a question: why, when i fuse meshes in poisson mode, sometime appear artifacts (big flying mesh around object) and sometimes works good? in the final mesh in 1024x768 scan-resolution, firts time i fuse my meshes at 512 resolution value and result is correct (what can you see in firs image). after i try again with other resolution (256 and 600) but although i have a good number of single scan-mesh (8 all around), shapefusion failed, and made a mesh with tipical poisson's "sails", sheets. why one tme work, and after don't? same file, same result, i expected...

bye

Nice work Hal. I have a couple of questions about that camera. What is your frame rate as seen by david at 1280x1024 while scanning? Does it reproduce colors accurately? Is it CCD or CMOS? Seems like a nice afordable camera for scanning. Can you give us your review of it?

Good question. I have no idea. Do you have very large holes in your aligned scans? I realized that in some cases the fusion process has problems to distinguish between 'inside' and 'ouside' if the missing regions are to large. :?

little hole

Postby hal » Wed Sep 19, 2007 1:38 pm

hi simon, yes, the problem of artifacts is linked with hole in mesh. but i assume this is natural when (my 3 image) i have big hole. in first image are present 1 or 3 little holes in final mesh: first time i lauch poisson fusion all works well, but other time different artifacts appears. bho. thanks for reply.

hi bongobat, thanks. as soon as possible i post the camera's details. bye

salve a tutti

i thik webcam trust wb 5400 is a CMOS (thanks WalteMo  ), but i don't know exactly. at 1280x1024 in david work at 11 fps, 15 fps in 1024x768. color ar correctly reproduced and it has lot of parameter. work perfetly, for david, in b/w. only two problem: moving zoom handly can move the webcam (very light) and during work, sensor warming and little colored pixel (not much, fortunatly) appears. but is a ggod camera, and isn't expencive.

bye

Hello hal,
The Trust WB-5400 has a CMOS-sensor. I don't know any CCD-Web Cam on market which has a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels.
First it seem so that martinziener had found one when he presented the Agent V2 Web Cam on Aug 21. But 5 days later and after some inspections by him he told us that it is also a CMOS.
Your mentioned frame rates are neary the same as I found with my TRUST.

Old/New Comparison

Postby hal » Sat Mar 10, 2012 2:28 pm

Hello,

In this period I'm nostalgic and sometimes, looking at the past years, I think how dirty and raw were my first scans (and how fun David gave to me :D ).
So, I've tried to re-scan again the same small object done in 2007.
This WarHammer series miniature was one of my first test about small objects.

The old hardware, used for Laserscanning, was an hand-held red laser leveler and a Webcam at 1024x768.
The new one for Structured Light is a DELL projector 1280x800 and a CCD camera at 1024x768.

... just to have a comparison after a doubled David version.

Attached the OBJ file, just to have a closer look (sorry, I reduced the mesh density drastically because forum uploading).

Thanks Hal. I've been lurking in these forums for a while now. Being a beginner, I have many questions about the best way to get into this..

What do you mean by a 'doubled David version'?

Thanks.

Just that the first ogre was done with David 1.5, and the last with David 3.
So... 1.5 x2 :D
