k132 lumens car scan?

Which camera works? Where can you buy an adequate laser? And more...

k132 lumens car scan?

Postby drunkmunky » Fri Jan 01, 2016 6:33 pm

So I see that some people like Narmella are using a 2800 lumens Lamp style DLP projector while others are sticking to the K132/135/11 LED style.

My question is, do I need to purchase 2 projectors?

A 3000 lumen lamp style like the acer x1261 for large objects like a car? and the k132 for smaller objects within the dimension of the calibration boards?

Thanks.

You don't need two projectors. But a 2800 lumen one is also rather big and heavy. Therefore it's not so easy to handle.

There is a slider in the DAVID software to dim the lamp. If this reduction and that of the camera (gain, exposure time, etc.) isn't sufficient for a fine calibration you can put a grey-filter in front of the camera lens. Don't put it in front of the projector's lens, it will be heated up!

Thanks

How much impact does white chalk spray or developer spray have on the projected pattern per 'Growshapes LLC' suggestion?

Would this improve the effectiveness of a 600 lumen LED projector to register relief and surface forms at a greater distance? ie: 2.5m out of the 3.1m of the k132

this is a quick scan of a Honda S2000 boot lid, you can see the edge of the developer spray as I only needed the wing mounting locations not the full car, without spray I got nothing ( black car )

I prefer not to turn down the projector if possible, but instead prefer neutral density filter in front of the camera (if the aperture cant be stopped down enough for the correct exposure).

Regarding the K135, I encountered a lot of problems with waves on the scan surface when the projector was set to full intensity. I don't know if this is a general problem with this model or specific to the one I have.

The waves were greatly reduced when I lowered the intensity.

This was with a Canon 60D using live view.

my projector is an Optoma ML300, 300 lumens so not as much as the k132, still can do the job without using a bigger projector, I do have a bigger bulb type optoma projector that I should try for the bigger scans but not needed to yet
