[Solved] David 4.4.1 - Long scan list crash

Postby hal » Wed Jan 27, 2016 12:15 pm

Hello dear David team,
I got a strange poblem with David. On my 32 Gb RAM computer, David 4.4.1.720 crash loading 30-more scans list.
After the n°30 is loaded, the pop-up apper: David stop to work.

In the older version I never had this issue. I tried to load the scans in smaller goups each time, but when the 30° cames, the software crash.
That is strange because if I scan more then 30 pieces and save them into a .davidproj file, no problems happen.
Furthermore, the only way to let it working is to load 29 scans, then upload the other scans one by one: if loaded (after reach the 30°) into multiple selection (also a pair), the software crash.

Any idea about?
Best regards,
Mattia

Hi Mattia,

Sorry I can't reproduce that problem. I can load >30 scans. I have tested big OBJ files, also with textures.

So you are saying it crashes in when you already have 29 scans imported, and then import at least 2 more? .OBJ or .davidmesh or both? Do you import by drag+drop or with the "+" button?
Does it also happen when you load 20 scans and Duplicate all?
Does it also happen when you import 30 SMALL scans?
Does it happen with textured scans or also without textures?

Do you get an error message? What does the Debug Console say?

Good night
Sven

Hello dear Sven.

the crash happen with long lists that count more then 30 scans. The strange thing is that happen only if I upload groups of scans after the 30° one. If I load 1 scan at time after the 30°, the issue don't happen. Tested only with OBJs, uploaded with "+" botton.

Don't happen if I duplicate or when I uncobine long groups of scanning.

Small or big scan files, don't change.

Tried only with meshes without textures.

The error message is one of Window 10, that say that the software stop to work. No more information.

Debug mode not checked.

I will try on other computers.
Thanks and good night,
Mattia

Hi Tibor,
I'm sorry to hear about your crash.

Does it happen always at the same step?
I see from you screen shots that the crash happens during ALIGNMENT. Is it always the same scan that causes the crash?

You have used DAVID for many years. Did the problem start with version 4.4.1? Do older versions also crash? Does DAVID 4.4.1 also crash with other scans?

Hi Sven
I feel my duty to test the new version. Thereby helping the community.
I deleted all the folders. Re-installed the 4.3.6 version, this works flawlessly.

Hi Tibor,
Thanks, great to hear!

And when you now go to version 4.4.1 again (maybe install in a different folder), you get the crashs again?
If yes, please send me the scan data and exact instructions how to reproduce the crash!

Thanks
Sven

I am able to reproduce this with 100% consistency when loading ~75 scans in the list. How do I get some more debugging information? The console window does not contain much beyond the standard generic .NET/C# NullReferenceException. Unfortunately the total size of the scans and textures is > 1GB so I can't share them.

I am getting similar problem. Saved davidproj file crashes David on Windows 10 machine with 30+ files. This happened on two separate files. I also have a very large amount of RAM. Interesting...
