Different/Additional SL Scanning Methods

Postby ShadowTail » Fri Sep 27, 2013 12:40 pm

The current approach DAVID uses with SL Scanning is perfect for a good many different types of objects and surfaces.
However, there are surfaces and objects that simply cannot be scanned by DAVID unless you do some serious preparation work.

Here are two articles that discuss different methods of depth acquisition from SL scanning.
One uses multiple cameras, the other uses different types of patterns. The latter approach can fix issues with most reflections and sub-surface scattering resulting in better scan results.

Perhaps one or even both methods could be implemented in a future version of DAVID in some way, shape or form to improve the already impressive scan results even more.
