New Beta Version DAVID 4.3.5

Postby Sven » Fri Sep 04, 2015 6:36 pm

Hi!

We have done lots of improvements under the hood. I'd like to invite everyone to test the latest version:

DOWNLOAD: http://downloads.david-3d.com/software/ ... _beta1.zip

For SDK users: Compatible update: http://downloads.david-3d.com/software/ ... _1.8.0.zip

What's new since 4.2:
New features:
- Alignment: "Retry" Button to find different alignment solutions
- Alignment: New Advanced Setting ShapeFusion->Registration->RotationAngleTolerance
- Setup: Automatic camera selection when only one camera available
- SDK: new function ShapeFusion_DuplicateMesh

Misc:
- Shapefusion: Scan name changes are now applied when using the Return key
- Shapefusion: Changed number format and unified units in scan properties view
- SDK: Coarse Alignment: Now returns Quality value (percentage of overlap)
- SDK: Fine Alignment: Improved drift limits using mesh's center of gravity --> more robust vs. outliers
- SDK: Global Fine Alignment: Added drift limits
- Improved Coarse Alignment (given axis mode)

Bugfix:
- Alignment: Fixed/Improved "Contact Pair Selection" when aligning grouped scans
- Fusion: Avoid crash when fusing a large number of textured scans (64-bit only)
- SDK: Fixed "Clear Project" button in Server Mode
- Fixed Scan Properties window (exchanged 'triangles' and 'vertices')
- Fixed a bug that caused DAVID to crash in some situations when clearing the project
- Fixed AddToList and Export buttons in TextureUI
- corrected German translation of rotation axis in Scan Properties
- some minor bugfixes

Details about the "Retry" Button

I love it because it's so simple:
Somtimes Alignment finds a wrong solutions (mathematically good with lots of overlap, but... just wrong). This happens mainly with symmetric objects. Since Alignment has a randomized component, you can try to run it again. Usually that does not help. So you can try "Contact Pairs" or "use texture" or "Y-axis" etc...
But now, just click "Retry". Alignment will then suggest more solutions, but never the same again. Click "Retry" until you get what you have. :D
Usually it takes just 1 or 2 clicks. Of course it's fun to click more often and see what other solutions it finds

We are looking forward to your feedback! Please let us know if you find any bugs.

Thanks
Sven

Hi Sven,

Unfortunately To have a good alignment for complex objects ; These are not a good strategy to reduce time for alignment .
I have to have more scans to help DLS aligns scans correctly .

In this sample i have used 57 single scans ( 30 was enough )

By using free alignment type :
SV007.png

Even by using " Grouping align strategy " :
SV008.png

It is good that we are using Align to previous scan but not enough ; may be recognizing any helpers like Stickers would be very helpful .

Thanks in advance

You can use stickers.
DAVID does not look for stickers, but you can attach stickers and grab a texture with each scan. Then during alignment select "Use Texture".
What will happen:
With "Use Texture", DAVID does not look for colors, but it looks for regions on the scans with high brightness gradient. In other words, regions where the brightness of the object changes, e.g. along a drawn line or at the border of a colored patch. Those areas will be used with high priority during alignment, and other areas will have lower priority.
Like this, you can align correctly when the object does not have enough distinct SHAPE.

Give it a try!

Best
Sven

PS: The markers should not be too dark, otherwise they won't be scanned at all.

Hi Sven,

Thanks a lot, your explanations were really useful.

I am testing aligning using textures , here is the last result by using 39 single scans .

I will add more information later.

Thanks again.

Hi,

It needs to create a new topic for this one , but for now :
As it shown in the picture :

ST000.png

Hi Narmella
There is a standard Macbeth. So I tried it in the past.We should combine the two processes.

Hi Tibor,

Using geometrical objects around or on the parts is good where you don't want to change the situation of part ( I like it and i use it too ).

But by using this kind of stickers ( as usual 12 x 12 mm ) on the part you can change the place of part without any problem ;
it means that , it does not need to have more scans for alignment and as i tried it the alignment using textures is really quick.

WooOoow 8) .

New detailed results in a new topic soon.

How do you buy and a single PC license (without USB drive) ?
I can't seem to find this on the David site.

Sorry, we do not sell Single PC licenses any more.
The "buy now" website you may have found on our old server was for DAVID3 and did not work any more. It is now offline.
Please purchase a DAVID USB key from one of our distributors in your country: http://www.david-3d.com/support/worldmap
Thank you
