Dual camera? How is it going? Opinions for payed Update

Postby AlexNoir » Sun May 26, 2013 3:59 pm

Hey all!

I also want to continue with the one year old topic of Christian_Mendez about the Wish to have dual camera for the scanning.

Link: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4125

But I've also some questions to ALL Users and what do thing about?

To the developers: How is it going? Is there something in process? What are the difficulties? The User interface or what else? How big are the changes in the software and what is about the calibration?

I mean now we've the x64 of the software - great to work with more input like in the use with two scans and "better oriented" textures :)

And to ALL Users:

I've nothing against to pay a amount of money for this update of using the dual camera system like the update von 2.x to 3.x - so the dual version maybe version 4.x? :) Or maybe also two different software offers. Like the current 3.x versions with one camera and a seperat maybe more expensive 4.x Version - but it's allowed to you to update your own 3.x Version for this smal amount of money?

What do you think about? I mean yes with the software we also bought a support or update possibilities, but this change to two cameras is not directly nessasary like from 2.x to 3.x. And to create such a software open for seperat components is a big work! So I thing such a payment for a update would be fair :)

What do you think about this all? :)

Greetings,

Alex

... count me too in for this 'dual-camera-wish'

I have two dental scanners (much more for trading) with two cameras on a tilting arm with a vertical line-laser between them - want to replace the laser with a SL-beamer and use David for two-cam scanning ...

I'm totally in ..
Currently my rig is transforming from personal use (fun) to professional use and concerning faces scan, two cameras would be such an improvement !!
Credit Card is ready ;) ...

PS : 2 Cameras and flat checker calibration plane would be sooo great !

Add me to list. I will pay extra for new capabilities.

How is development progressing?

I have tried both solutions. For a single camera calibration with checkerboard, you will have more accurate scans than David's current setup, but would still require projector calibration with each image. this problem would be solved if david allowed a 2 camera system. However, I think it will still be slow. David's API still needs work on speed. I think the problem if people don't mind, is that the current david solution was originally designed for laserscanning. I am for dual camera's. I am for checkerboard calibration. It's the only way to go. You can cover more area with the checkerboards.

The DAVID Team agrees. :)

Our two-panel calibration method comes from laser scanning. A one-panel calibration is on our to-do list. However it does not only have advantages...

The dual-camera idea is not new. We always wanted to keep the hardware setup as inexpensive as possible. But for some applications a second camera would be welcome - we agree. Not in DAVID 3.x but maybe in 4.x...
We are a small team. At the moment other projects are more urgent, e.g. completing the SDK...

So please be patient. We all want the same

Thank you for your feedback! Please keep posting your ideas and suggestions - This is a great community! :D

I am also with dual camera and flat calibration panel. But my question is:
1- How accurate the twin camera single projector systems available in market.
2- What will be the advantage of using dual camera system. Will we improve the accuracy of the scan?

I am always with Flat board calibration panel. Is it possible with David team to make a all alone programming like the Zscanner available in market.
