37mm Close-Up Lens Adapter for Acer K132/K135 projector

Postby mr_cg » Sun Sep 20, 2015 11:30 am

I created my own close-up lens adapter for the Acer K132/K135 to decrease the minimum distance to the screen/object.
37mm close-up lens (macro lens) can be found in lot of online shops. Set with 4 items (1x, 2x, 4, 10x) is about 15-20€.
Hereby i would like to share the idea and hope it's also useful for others.

You can find the STL for the close-up lens adapter on Thingiverse here:

Excellent, can you post a link to the lenses so we know exactly which ones you used? Thanks!

Search in eBay for ID 301236415256 than you should find it.
But also other 37mm lens should fit without problem.

Thanks, yep found a set of Vivatars and got them ordered. Printed your mount this morning. Fits perfect although not tight so I may have to use some tape or something to secure it to the 132.

Thank you for the contribution. I've only today received a set of vivitar lenses and have downloaded the stl file. I hope to use the public library's 3d printer to build the bracket.

Does the opening have to be forced in order for the lens to attach? Is it practical to have threads machined into the opening? I'll bet that would be challenging to accomplish!

Do you think PLA is an acceptable material, or should it be printed in ABS?

I hope someday to get my system fully operational, instead of lying in pieces about my house! It's tough for me to get sufficient space for acceptable workflow.

PLA is fine. Don't worry about threads, it's not necessary. The fit is tight enough that the lens will stay on it's own. Each printer is different though in terms of calibration and that "perfect fit." However, I did use a dab of silicone on each side just to make sure. I printed an adaptor for each lens. I also added a small strip of electrical tape on the lip of the adapter that clamps on to the K132 just to make a little more snug. Works perfect.

I like the idea of a separate adapter for each lens. That might be asking a bit much from the public library, but if I'm not too greedy and space it out over a reasonable period of time, it might be okay. Because the library has an assortment of colors, I might be able to work a unique color for each lens. Glad to hear that you think PLA is okay, as it's not a heated bed and all they have is PLA.

I`ve also bought that lens kit but it fit only for single scan. That lenses are not aspherical and only center area is acceptable (in my case - I can`t match few scans becouse of spherize effect). Do you know where can I find aspherical close up lenses? What will be better in that case aspherical or achromatic close up lenses?

@bartosh44:
You should use an achromatic lens. In the past I had bought some lenses from macony-design:
http://macony-design.de/catalog/index.p ... 4372f2c24c

It's a German reseller of odds. In the meantime the name of this online shop has changed to Präzisionsoptiken.eu.
Unfortunately the sites are only in German and the shop has an 'ä' in its name.

So far i did not realize any issue with matching the scan's using 37mm close-up lens.
Usually the objects are more in "portrait mode" and therefore the distortions of non aspherical lens should not effect so much.
Another idea would be to construct the adapter for larger close-up lens (e.g.58mm or 67m) because distortions usually are caused by outer side of lens.

Anyhow ... for me the 37mm close-up lens adapter works fine.
